Zoho lists hundreds of partners in India, from one-person resellers to Premium Partners with certified delivery teams. The wrong choice costs months and a failed rollout. These twelve questions, drawn from projects we have rescued, separate partners who implement from partners who only sell licences.

Quick answer

Ask about partner tier and current certifications, whether they have configured GST, e-invoicing and Tally migration before, who will actually work on your project, whether the scope and price are fixed in writing, what happens after go-live, and for two Indian references in your industry. Weak answers to any of these are a warning sign.

1. What is your Zoho partner tier, and can I verify it?

Zoho's partner programme has tiers, and the higher tiers require certified staff and delivery volume. Ask for the partner's listing in Zoho's official partner directory and check it yourself. A Premium Partner has met Zoho's requirements on certifications and customer outcomes; a reseller may have none.

2. Which certifications do your consultants hold right now?

Certifications expire and staff leave. Ask for the current list of Zoho certifications by product (CRM, Books, Creator, People, Analytics) and how many people hold each. A partner with one certified person and ten juniors is a risk on a multi-app rollout.

3. Have you configured GST, e-invoicing and e-way bills on Zoho Books?

Indian accounting is where generic partners fail. Ask for a walkthrough of a live Zoho Books organisation with GSTIN-wise invoicing, HSN and SAC masters, e-invoicing and GSTR data. If they cannot show it, they have not done it. See our GST compliance on Zoho Books page for what a complete setup includes.

4. How do you migrate from Tally?

Most Indian businesses arrive from Tally. Ask for the migration method: masters, opening balances, open invoices, parallel run and CA reconciliation. A partner who says "just export and import" has never reconciled a trial balance. Our Tally to Zoho Books migration page describes the steps we expect any serious partner to follow.

5. Who exactly will work on my project?

The person who sells is rarely the person who configures. Ask for the names, roles and certifications of the consultant and developer assigned to you, and whether they are employees or freelancers.

6. Is the scope and price fixed in writing?

Ask for a scope document that lists modules, custom fields, workflows, integrations, migration and training, with a fixed price and a change-request process. Hourly estimates with no ceiling are how budgets double.

7. Which Indian integrations have you delivered?

WhatsApp Business API, IndiaMART and JustDial lead capture, Indian cloud telephony, Razorpay, Tally and marketplaces are standard requirements. Ask for examples of each you need. See Zoho CRM integrations for the list we consider standard.

8. What does support look like after go-live?

Ask about response times, whether support is a retainer or hourly, who answers, and whether they cover Zoho updates and new requirements. A partner without a support offering plans to disappear after the invoice.

9. Can I speak to two Indian clients in my industry?

References from businesses like yours, in India, using the same apps, are the strongest evidence. International references do not tell you how a partner handles GST or a Noida manufacturer's dispatch flow.

10. Do you build on Zoho Creator, or only configure?

Every business has a process no standard app covers. A partner with a real Zoho Creator practice can build it; one without will tell you to change your process.

11. How do you handle training and adoption?

Ask for the training plan by role, in the language your team works in, and how adoption is measured after go-live. Systems fail when the sales team goes back to WhatsApp.

12. Will you tell me when Zoho is not the answer?

Some processes fit Odoo or custom software better. A partner who only sells Zoho will always recommend Zoho. Partners who implement more than one platform can give honest advice; ask what they would not use Zoho for.

Frequently asked questions

How many Zoho partners are there in India?
Hundreds, across several tiers. Zoho's official partner directory lists them by location and tier, and is the only reliable way to verify a partner's status.
Is a Premium Partner more expensive?
Licence prices are set by Zoho and are the same for every partner. Implementation prices vary with scope, not tier. A Premium Partner's experience usually reduces rework, which lowers total cost.
Can I change partners later?
Yes. Your Zoho account belongs to you. A new partner can take over configuration and support, though undocumented customisations make handover slower.
Should I buy licences directly from Zoho or through a partner?
The price is the same. Buying through a partner adds advice, licence management and support at no extra licence cost.
